When my first marriage ended, I found myself cycling between feelings of despair and elation. My orbiting emotional state was making me dizzy. From somewhere came the inspiration to write. I recall thinking that putting thoughts on paper might help me settle on some feeling. Writing did settle me, allowing me to see that I needed to both grieve and celebrate, not cheating either their due.

I wrote daily for a couple decades and often thought it was a waste of time, but I enjoyed the inner peace that seemed to accrue. I agree that writing can be a meditative action.
